Our Best Shapewear for Male Gynecomastia
Believe it or not, gynecomastia is a pretty common condition. It affects around 50% of men at some point of their lives, either in their teenage years or adulthood…or both. It can arise from a hormonal imbalance, other medical conditions, or even certain medications. And it very often comes with the side effect of self-consciousness.
What is gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is the medical name for the presence of enlarged breast tissue in people assigned male at birth. It’s not harmful to your health, but, as we mentioned earlier, it can definitely damage your self-esteem. We prefer the medical name for the condition, but you may have also heard gynecomastia referred to as “man boobs,” or the even shorter form: moobs.
You may be looking at this blog post because you want to know how to get rid of moobs – if so, don’t be confused by the terminology! Gynecomastia, male breast tissue, man boobs, and moobs all typically refer to the same thing. The medical name can also be shortened to gyno, often referred to as gyno in men for the sake of clarity.
Gynecomastia cause
As we mentioned above, gynecomastia can be caused by many things. If you have gynecomastia, it may be because you have a hormonal imbalance. It can also be caused by a wide variety of medical conditions, including but not limited to hypogonadism, hyperthyroidism, tumors, kidney disease, or liver disease. It can also happen at different ages: teenagers are likely to develop gynecomastia, but it’s also common among older men. Obesity can cause it, but so can malnutrition.
And watch out, gym bros: steroids can cause gynecomastia. Gynecomastia from steroids is very common because steroids disrupt the balance of the hormones testosterone and estrogen. When you take steroids, your body gets flooded with testosterone. In an attempt to balance your hormones out, your body then transforms some of that testosterone into estrogen, which – you guessed it – causes breast tissue to form. That’s right: man boobs from steroids are a thing. Luckily, that particular cause is preventable: just don’t take anabolic steroids!
Gynecomastia is hard to get rid of. It often goes away without treatment. However, if yours doesn’t, there are some things you can try: there are medications you can take, you can have surgery, or you can try exercising to build up chest muscles. But the easiest way to get the look of a flat chest is simply to put on some shapewear.
Shapewear for gynecomastia
Despite the condition being relatively common, you’re not likely to see male models or shirtless influencers that have it, so that can make you feel like you’re all alone. You’re not! In fact, the condition is so common that we’ve made shapewear that specifically targets the chest.
We offer multiple styles of shapewear designed specifically to target the chest, making them ideal for gynecomastia. Whether you have gynecomastia, or are just looking for an overall sculpted look, we make masculine shapewear that will flatten out your chest – plus your abs, as an added bonus. Our shapewear for men also has built-in back support so that you can stand up straighter and exude confidence.
So, which gynecomastia shapewear would we recommend?
If you’re just looking for sculpting on the upper half, you could try our Max/Force Compression Vest. It’s made of our signature PowerSlim® fabric for firm compression in the whole torso. Not only does it flatten your chest, it will also carve out your abs and provide some serious back support. We make multiple shaper vests and tank tops, but this is the only one that truly has firm compression to flatten the chest, making it the perfect shapewear to hide gynecomastia.
Our Firm Compression Shaper Bodysuit covers the whole torso, as well as the upper thighs, for a totally sculpted look. This body shaper for men has compression in the chest that’s a little lighter than in the torso, but it should still help you get that flat-chested look because it’s also made of PowerSlim®. Just like the compression vest we mentioned above, this bodysuit also has the criss-cross posture corrector bands in the back, so it will also give you a posture boost!
Whether you choose to wear shapewear for gynecomastia or not, just know that the condition is relatively normal – common, even! Although you may feel insecure about your chest, keep in mind that you’re not alone…and that there are some solutions you can try.

Various FAQs
Is it weird for men to wear shapewear?
In short, no!
The point of most shapewear is to go hidden under clothes. Much of our shapewear for men comes in the form of compression tanks, which look like a regular undershirt but have hidden shaping power. Whenever you leave the house, you may see men in shapewear all around you and not even know it!
How long can you wear shapewear for?
If you try on our shapewear and it gives you the boost of confidence you were hoping for, you’ll be glad to know that it’s safe to wear every day! However, you’ll want to limit your shapewear wearing (shapewearing?) to 8 hours or so per day. Wearing it for too long can cause circulation issues, nerve compression, and other unpleasant issues.
The only exception to that rule is if you’re wearing shapewear for post-surgical reasons. For example, if you’ve had a mens chest reduction or another kind of mens gyno surgery, your surgeon may recommend that you wear a compression garment afterwards to help with recovery; in that case, your surgeon will typically recommend that you wear it 24/7, removing it only to shower. Wearing compression garments after surgery can help reduce swelling and bruising while helping your body heal more quickly.
What is the best material for male shapewear?
The best shapewear material is anything that’s breathable. Fabric that’s not breathable traps your sweat inside, which can get uncomfortable and smelly, not to mention it can cause you to develop uncomfortable skin issues. Luckily, our shapewear for men is made of our signature compression fabrics, which are super light, soft, and ultra-breathable. For example, our all-star PowerSlim® fabric has a special weave that’s porous for ultimate breathability. It’s perfect to wear daily!
