How to Stay Motivated to Work Out at Home

Whether you're a work from home mom or are just not into gyms and workout studios, you may find yourself trying to start a home exercise regimen. But let us guess: You find yourself easily distracted or, for some reason or another, are finding it hard to stay motivated. It's not easy to stay motivated to work out at home, especially with constant chores and the temptation of more enjoyable activities like binge-watching your favorite TV series. But if you stick with a few basic rules and keep yourself engaged and stimulated, you can actually learn to look forward to your at-home workouts. So whether you're exercising to get rid of that postpartum tummy fat or want to look fabulous in that summertime swimwear, here are a few tips and tricks to stay motivated and get your body in amazing shape.

Stick to a Schedule

If you're not used to working out, it's not something you have yet learned to look forward to. And this makes it very easy to convince yourself there are better things to do or chores to be done. However, if you actually create a calendar with an exercise routine, this gives you more drive to stick to a schedule and not back out. When you block out time for exercising, as you would for any important appointment or health check-up, you make it more of a concrete plan you can stick to. When you create your own fitness calendar, be sure to mix it up to keep things interesting, using weekly routines and adding cardio days, yoga days and even strength-training days. Set up alerts, too, and make no excuses!

Make a Morning Workout Routine

When you work out in the morning hours, it gets your exercise out of the way, so you're not tempted to delay or push it off. Better still, a morning workout can give you the energy boost and metabolism you need to tackle your entire day and keep you sustained! A morning workout can keep you motivated, but also put you in a better mood, giving you an optimistic outlook while also reducing stress and tension. But if you're not exactly a morning person, that's okay, too! Just make sure to set aside a time that works for your schedule and make it a few times each week. You can even do some light exercises before bed, such as yoga or Pilates, to help you unwind and relax.

Create a Dedicated Workout Space

Find a space in your home that you can dedicate as your workout area. Keep the yoga mats nearby and all the fitness accessories. Also, be sure to make it an enjoyable space, decluttering the area and adding speakers to stream music. You can even keep inspirational items around to drive you and keep you motivated. Also, be sure to feel confident in your body as you work out. Leonisa offers lots of activewear and workout clothes for women, from leggings to sports bras, to make you look and feel your best-even if it's just within your own home gym.

Find a Fitness Routine You Actually Enjoy

Today, we have a practically endless variety of fitness instructors on YouTube, as well as fitness programs and apps-all at our fingertips. Try out something and if it doesn't feel right and keep you motivated, move on and find something else. Also, just because you don't have a home gym doesn't mean you can't tone your muscles or get the cardio you need. There are plenty of at-home exercises you can do, such as yoga and Pilates or even simple squats, push-ups and planks. Start short and sweet at first, too. Don't overextend yourself to the point that your home workout is not enjoyable. Stick to 30-minute increments at least once per day and then work up and challenge yourself from there.

Shake Things Up

One way to stay motivated to work out at home is to shake things up and change out or rotate your everyday routines. As mentioned before, you need to make sure to rotate cardio days with weight days, but it's much more than that. Shake things up by getting outside and taking a run around the block or doing some yoga asanas in your backyard to enjoy the sun on your skin and get some fresh air. The point here is to just prevent yourself from getting bored and falling into a monotonous routine.

Don't Make Excuses

Make exercise a top priority in your everyday routine and stop making excuses! It doesn't take a lot of fancy fitness equipment to stay motivated to work out at home. It just takes dedication. Create a schedule, pin it to your fridge or whatever you have to do and challenge yourself!
